COMMON ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS

Issue: English Firsthand Active Teach CD-ROM is not working properly

Symptom(s): The application used to work just fine but then suddenly stopped working. Some buttons are not responding when clicked.

Cause(s): The application did not close properly during the previous session, or  the application was interrupted while you were saving the resource file.

Resolution(s): Delete the corrupted Profile information saved by the application and relaunch.

Step-By-Step Guides:

  1. Browse for the “bookshelf” folder in the English Firsthand Active Teach CD-ROM disc.
    D:\program\bookshelf\
  2. Note down the names of the all sub folders inside the “bookshelf” folder. You will need these “folder names” in the latter step.
    Example: “9789880030758_1” & “9789880030758_2

  3. If the English Firsthand Active Teach program is still running, exit the program by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner.

  4. Locate the AppData folder in your Windows user account folder.  View Screenshot.

    Windows 7 Users
    Go to >> C:\user\<UserProfileName>*\AppData\

    Windows Vista Users
    Go to >> C:\Users\<UserProfileName>*\ AppData

    Windows XP Users

    Go to >> C:\Documents and Settings\<UserProfileName>*\Application Data

Note: "<UserProfileName>" is the name of your Window account.

If you cannot see the AppData folder, it is likely this folder is hidden by Windows.  For instructions on how to “unhide” folders in Windows, click on a link below.
Windows 7 Users  |  Windows Vista Users  |  Windows XP Users
  5. You will see a sub folder, inside the AppData folder, called “Pearson Education Asia Ltd”. This folder will be either under the “Local” or the “Roaming” tab depends on whether you have logged in using a local account or a network account.

  6. Under “Pearson Education Asia Ltd”, browse for a folder called “profile”.
    C:\user\<UserProfileName>*\AppData\Local\Pearson Education Asia Ltd\Ebook\2.2\profile

  7. Look for the folder(s) with the exact folder name(s) that you have noted down in Step (2). Rename these folders with other names.
    Example: “9789880030758_1_error”, “9789880030758_2_error”

  8. Launch the English Firsthand Active Teach CD. The application should now function normally.
