Product(s): SecuROM protected products (English in Common, Speakout, Total English)
Category: CD-ROM/DVD products (ActiveTeach/ActiveBook)
User Type: General
Item: Cannot open application due to software protection error (original disc error message)

What's the issue?
Some CD/DVD copy protection products are failing to open
due to Microsoft no longer supporting the SecuROM DRM protection system. This is affecting Pearson's customers trying to run our copy-protected interactive whiteboard (ActiveTeach/ActiveBook) products. The applications may display the below or similar messages.

How to resolve this issue?
To resolve this issue, please follow the below steps.

For Windows/PC Users

  1. Copy the content from the CD/DVD-ROM and paste into a new folder on your computer.
  2. Browse the new folder directory to locate START_PC file.  This file is normally in the "data" folder.

  3. Once located, delete the START_PC file and keep this folder open.
  4. Download the patch and extract the zip file (click here to download patch for PC computers).
  5. Copy the "START_PC" from the extracted folder and paste into the new folder in Step 3.
  6. Double click on the "START_PC" file to launch the software.
  7. You can create a desktop shortcut to this launch file to always start the application from your desktop.
Note: The CD/DVD-ROM is no longer needed to run the software. Store it in a safe place for future installations.

For MAC Users

  4. Download the patch and extract the zip file (click here to download patch for MAC Computers).
  5. Copy the "START_OSX.app" from the extracted folder and paste into the new folder in Step 3.
  6. Double click on the "START_OSX.app" file to launch the software.
  7. You can create a desktop shortcut to this launch file to always start the application from your desktop.
